The late and great Peter Watson aka Mr Egremont

Egremont2Day was founded in 1990 by former teacher Peter Watson as a voice for the Labour party and it quickly became the ‘glue that held a community together’.

When the Labour party decided to end its association with the paper, Peter continued with a band of willing volunteers. In Peter’s own words, he wanted it to be ‘the voice of the community, celebrating the amazing achievements of its children and reinforcing its self-belief.’

From black and white beginnings, the paper has flourished over 25 years and is now a monthly colour paper at the forefront of local news. We distribute to 13,000 homes in Egremont, Cleator Moor and District and cover a range of subjects from local news, music, theatre reviews to recipes, sports and politics – there is something for everyone to read in E2D. We’ve also expanded into the world of social media with Facebook and Twitter and have brilliant advertising packages from as little as £15 per month – simply get in touch.

Egremont 2Day is a ‘not for profit’ organisation and supports a number local charities, donating money and support each year. Among those we support are the CKDCF, CRCL and The Samaritans. Peter Watson was a dedicated Editor and member of the community, printing the paper in his garage for over 20 years. Now a small local team of volunteers, we’re carrying on the paper hoping to make Peter and our community proud!
