No better way to help MacMillan Nurses: Raising money with coffee and cake

Egremont Library hosted a MacMillan Coffee Morning, raising vital Funds for this worthwhile charity.

It was an all-day event, from 10am until closing, and the money raised goes towards helping people with, or affected by, cancer.

Many libraries in the region hosted a coffee morning sometime in September or October. The official date the amazing fundraising event was the 25th September, but individual dates varied in an attempt not to clash.

This year was the fifth year Egremont Library has participated in the national fundraising event. On average they raise between £400 and £500 for the charity.

The assortment of cakes and scones was wonderful, from fruit scones to butterfly cakes. All cakes were handmade by volunteers.

The community supported the library’s coffee morning, with many local shops donating for the cause. Aside from cakes and coffee there was also a raffle, with the top prize being a hamper from Richardson’s of Whitehaven.

Coffee mornings are an excellent way to provide support for those struggling with cancer. Cancer was once seen as the big ‘C’ and was a very isolating condition, but with events such as this one, this typecast is being challenged.

MacMillan supports not only facing cancer, but also family and friends of those diagnosed too. It is a great charity campaigning for better cancer care.

It was a successful day, and well attended by the local community.

Organisers thanked all customers, bakers, local shops for donating raffle prizes, and to helpers on the actual day.

The total raised was £400.60p
