A COMMUNITY came together, despite the rain, to raise money for charity.

The annual Danica’s Dream Fund (DDF) charity football match was expanded this year into a family fun day and night.

Workington Red’s ladies team faced off against a Windscales select team.

Even though it was for charity the game was played to a high standard – with the ladies not to be underestimated.

They played a tough match but the overall winners were the charity team – beating the ladies 8-1.

Along with the charity match there was children’s entertainment, a bouncy castle, tombola and raffle.

In the evening they held a pub quiz and entertainment was provided by Egremont-based singer Sally Thompson and DJ Callum McBride.

Overall £1273.17 was raised – with all money going to Danica’s Dream Fund, which was set up in memory of Danica Maxwell who lost her battle with cancer in 2010.

John Maxwell, Danica’s dad, said: “It’s just been a fantastic today to have some many people turn out, even with the bad weather, to help us raise money in Danica’s memory.”
