IT could be a happier time in the future for families visiting Seascale. The local community are planning to revamp the play area on the beach front.

The project is being co-ordinated by the Seascale Community Beach Park Project made of Seascale residents.
The play area itself is now under the ownership of the parish council but has seen no investment since 1998, with a lot of the existing play equipment dating back 30 years.

Chairperson of the Project, Elizabeth Mawson, said: “Understandably this is now looking extremely tired. We see this as regeneration process that will benefit the entire community, both Seascale itself, residents, businesses, visitors to the area and residents of the surrounding Parishes. Not only will the young families have an imaginative and unique play area, the village will benefit from a central public space with seating, landscaping and amenities to improve the enjoyment of our lovely beach.”

The group has been working with play companies and have produced some bespoke designs and have just completed a very positive public focus group. The community is now embarking on the mammoth task of raising the £150K that they need to make it happen.

Elizabeth said: “I feel very strongly that this is a wonderful and very worthy project. The investment we make now will be here for at least the next 20 years. I played on the existing play equipment as a child and now my children use it today. One day my grandchildren may be around to enjoy this!”
