Calderwood House was presented with a £3,330 donation, after a year of collecting and charity calendar sales done by RAOB John Peel Lodge.

The calendars, which went on sale at the end of 2017, were of various scenes around Cumbria, taken by local photographers.

Paul Armstrong, who is a keen photographer and a member of the RAOB John Peel Lodge in Whitehaven, has led the venture.

Mr Armstrong said: “It’s fantastic we’ve been able to help Rachel and all the residents at Calderwood House.”
Calderwood House founder, Rachel Holliday was delighted with the donation.

She said: “I was absolutely delighted when Paul Armstrong got in touch saying they wanted to raise money for Calderwood and produce the calendars.

“We’ve been able to sell the calendars and make money for the hostel and it’s inspired the residents and us here for our future ventures.”

Calderwood House is a homeless hostel that provides support, around the clock, for those in need of accommodation – in particular they prioritise ex military personnel.

One current resident, Vikkie Logan, 33, said: “Being at Calderwood has changed my life, really helped me turn my life around and I think it’s amazing how kind people are.”

Calderwood House was chosen as a venture for the RAOB John Peel Lodge to fundraise for – in the past they have supported CKDCF and in 2018 they are supporting Danica’s Dream Fund.

Bob Hope, John Peel Lodge secretary, said: “It’s become a tradition to support a different charity each year.

“We try to support a local charity each year and we try to raise as much as we can through various fundraisers – such as our charity raffle.”

Thousands of pounds have been raised over the past couple of years through selling the calendars.
