LORRAINE Young (above) from Egremont has now been crowned Shoe Zone’s SuperMum of the Year 2015 following her monthly title win in June last year.

She received 43 per cent of the votes from the discount retailer’s Facebook fans and has won £150 worth of Shoe Zone vouchers which she is hoping to donate to charity.

Lorraine was nominated for the title SuperMum of the Month by her mum, Helen, for her unfailing dedication to her family despite the many challenges she has faced.

Lorraine’s eldest daughter Jamie is autistic, and Lorraine had to give up her career in the Army to look after her.

After leaving the Army, Lorraine had hoped to go into the police force but with Jamie’s difficulties it was impossible, as she wasn’t coping in the school environment.

Lorraine gave up all chances of joining the police to care for and tutor Jamie herself.

Jamie’s autism means that she has a tendency to bite or chew anything within reach – a dangerous condition common in many autistic children. Working closely with Dragon’s Den company, Chewigem, the family have been able to soothe Jamie effectively.

Last Summer, Lorraine took a position at the company and now helps other families by reaching out to them on social media channels.

“I was delighted to be nominated for Shoe Zone’s SuperMums competition by my mum last year, and couldn’t believe I had won the national title last week! I’m absolutely thrilled.” said SuperMum Lorraine. Life can be tough looking after Jamie, her autism means that she can struggle with the smallest of things, and I had no option but to leave work and look after her due to hospital appointments. It’s great that I can now make a difference to people’s lives through my work with Chewigem. Every mum out there deserves the SuperMum title for the things that they do for their children!”

High-street and online retailer, Shoe Zone launched the SuperMums competition in early 2015 to celebrate everything mums do for their families day in, day out, and give something back to all the marvellous mums out there.

Naomi Shefford, Marketing Director at Shoe Zone said: “There are so many mums across the UK who put their family’s needs above their own, and we launched the campaign to give something back to some of the unsung heroines who are selfless and loving at all times.

“Shoe Zone has been making sure mums and their families step forward in affordable style for almost 100 years. When we heard Lorraine’s story in June last year, we knew she particularly deserved a SuperMum accolade. We’re thrilled that she has been voted SuperMum of the Year. Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign over the last 12 months and well done to all of our SuperMum of the Month winners.”
