ON a damp day Egremont Rugby Union fended off a tough challenge from Furness to go top of the league, on January Saturday 9.

Egremont survived early Furness pressure to go over for the first try of the game and the conversion was successfully added.

Furness then stepped up the pressure to score two unanswered tries.

The only silver lining for Egremont was that both conversions were missed.

The game could have been slipping away from the home team after a penalty slipped wide.

But a quick flowing move sent the home team over for their second try.

The damp pitch showing no sign of hindering a passing game.

With a successful conversion Egremont went in at half time with the score 14 -10.

Coming out after half time Furness closed the gap with a successful penalty.

The game went back and forth with neither side finding the pass to unlock the oppositions defence.

Furness missed a penalty that would prove to be fatal to their chance of winning.

With Egremont charging down the centre a high tackle went in from Furness’ number 5 who was then sin binned.

Egremont then increased the pressure and when Furness kicked to clear their lines the ball was run straight back and through for the final try of the game.

When the conversion was added the scoring was complete.
The game finished 21 – 13.

● Egremont’s next home game is Saturday January 23 against Moresby.
