Fell lovers set for adventure to raise money for charity

WEST Cumbrian fell lovers Louise Stewart and Gareth Harrison are setting out on an adventure!

The duo are taking part in a Five Valleys Sponsored Walk on June 22 and 23.

Louise said; “After having my 71st birthday recently, I thought if I wanted an “adventure”, time to do something! With this in mind I persuaded my friend Gareth Harrison to act as Sherpa and dog Moss as companion. We planned a walk starting at Kirkstile Inn along Loweswater Valley, past Crummock Water and Buttermere over Scarth Gap to Black Sail spending the night at Lingmell House B&B in Wasdale Head. Next day, if we have any energy left, we plan to climb Illgill Head to Burnmoor Tarn down into Mitredale then on to Eskdale and end at Irton Church via Irton Hall, hopefully to be revived with something cold and fizzy- not lemonade!”

The distance is about 22 miles. They aim to raise money for charity at the same time.

Half of the money will go to help repair some of the stained glass windows at St Paul’s Church Irton.

The other half to help Mercy Ships UK a charity funding a ship equipped with operating theatres, dental facilities and health workers calling in at mainly African ports to reach those who have no other hope of treatment.
