Chain reaction: A Pi chain challenge brought maths to life at West Lakes Academy

TO celebrate International Pi Day the maths team at West Lakes Academy, Egremont, set students a range of fun mathematical challenges.

Year 9 McKenzie English impressed everyone in the pi memory challenge and named pi to 52 decimal places!

The academy’s maths department also hosted a Maths Feast competition. Two teams of Year 10 students from West

Lakes Academy competed against five teams from St Joseph’s in Workington, the UTC at Lillyhall and Nelson Thomlinson in Wigton.

Students from West Lakes Academy were awarded 1st place overall.

Miss Wallace (coordinator for maths) said: “I am very impressed with the performance of our 8 pupils .”
