New Whitehaven music and food event to launch in July

A new event has been announced for west Cumbria – The Whitehaven FM (food and music) which will take place on Whitehaven Marina over the weekend of July 15 and 16 this year.
The event is being organised by Gerard Richardson MBE and Andrew Lennie who for 16 years brought Whitehaven the Whitehaven Festivals.
Mr Richardson announced his retirement earlier this year, but has come back with a brand new event by Lakes Events.

Mr Richardson, Lakes Events director, said: “‘I’ve spent the best part of the last two decades volunteering for the town until I retired last year and immediately got bored so here we go again.”

The weekend will focus on a passions of food and live music and will provide entertainment for all ages with a large fair and street theatre in addition to live music from 70’s and 80’s stars.
Mr Richardson added: “Whitehaven is a fabulous town with stunning architecture, incredible history and this fabulous Marina attached directly to the town centre.
“In short it’s quite unique and deserves the best which is what we intend to give them with Whitehaven FM”
Whitehaven has proven to be one of the best festival venues in the North and we are confident that this event will be a massive success.The first event is being supported by Celebrity Chef and Cumbrian favourite Jean Christophe Novelli.
Mr Novelli said: “Im delighted to support Gerard’s new event it sounds really exciting and we are going to use my trip to raise money to support the people who suffered in the floods.

“More details on that soon but Whitehaven is a great venue for these types of events and who doesn’t like to pair food and live music?'”

Initial Sponsors are Britain’s Energy Coast (BEC), ARUP, West Cumbria Mining, Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, and Marina Projects
A spokesperson from the BEC said: “We hope the festival will bring a lot of enjoyment for Whitehaven and prove to be a prosperous few days for the town.
“Our work at the old bus station site is ongoing and a lengthy process, so we are delighted to be able to put it to good use during that time.”
