Students make it count when it comes to finance

STUDENTS at West Lakes Academy, Egremont have been taking part in the national Peg My Money Week.

westlakesVarious activities took place including a food shopping challenge workshop working alongside Egremont credit union and looking at budgeting and holidays with CAP. There was also a competition during tutor time focusing on credit and debt and a student money manual for Sixth Form students.

Ms Walter said: “Financial education is an essential part of learning for young people, it equips them to prepare for financial responsibilities and challenges in the future and we feel that it is essential to support our students in accessing as much experience with finance as possible. A quick reminder that our students savings scheme is open every Tuesday for students to open and pay into the credit union savings accounts.”

One student commented afterwards: “Thank you, I now understand why my mum stresses out when I throw extra items into the shopping basket.”

And another said: “It was really informative and fun.”
