Test your taste buds in St Bees

Fancy a tipple? Test your taste in St Bees

By Ken Powell

Do you fancy yourself a bit of a wine connoisseur? Know your Malbec from your Merlot or your Pinot Gris from your Pinot Noir? Has it got to be French and nothing but French? Or are you a radical and favour New World wines? Or do you think all those wine experts know nothing and it’s easy to tell a fine wine?

Whatever your opinions, the chance to pit your wits, your nose and your taste buds against others is coming to St Bees village hall on Friday 29 September. For the cost of a tenner, you can take part in a light-hearted wine-tasting quiz, where your team will sample several bottles from different countries, different grapes and different prices and try to figure out which is which. The winning team win a prize and everyone gets to quaff the remaining bottles. Light refreshments are also included in the price.

The evening promises to be a lot of fun and you might just find yourself surprised when the identities of the bottles are revealed. Were you a secret wine snob after all? Or does your nose never lie? St Bees Village Hall is rapidly gaining a reputation for holding fun events which are always packed out. As well as the forthcoming wine tasting event, there are two cinema evenings planned and plans are afoot to possibly host another much-loved Murder Mystery Night. Watch out for details!

The wine tasting evening kicks off at 7:30pm at ‘Hodgetts’, St Bees Village Hall on Friday 29 September and includes a licenced bar. Tickets are available by calling 01946 823772 or 01946 824109
