The Bards big day at Florence

JOIN Florence Arts Centre at Egremont for a day of free events to mark the anniversary of 400th anniversary Shakespeare death.

Florence Arts Centre will be joining the worldwide #Shakespeare400 commemorations with a special day celebrating the work of the Bard on Sunday, June 19.

In the Gallery will be work from the Barrow-based artists Trident Textiles whose latest exhibition Magic in the Web includes embroidery, silks, textiles, jewellery, fabric sculpture and mixed media in pieces inspired by Shakespeare’s words and characters. There will be an opportunity to meet the artists and see how they create their work and find out about their approach and inspiration.

To accompany the exhibition there will be live music from members of Harps NorthWest.

At 3pm there will be a free screening of Baz Luhrmann’s award-winning and iconic reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, starring Leonardo diCaprio and Claire Danes.

As with Luhrmann’s other films – including Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby – this is a treat for eyes and ears, hearts and minds.
