It couldn’t have been a more perfect day for the villagers of St Bees to hold their annual summer fete. As always, the village celebrated in style and with great enthusiasm on Saturday 17 June and the sun came out and matched their effort.

After the usual street parade – this year full of Flintstones, smurfs and and walking emoticons – everyone congregated on St Bees Village Primary School where a brass band played while the various costumes were judged and winners congratulated. Themes this year included: food, superheroes, politics and emojis.

Attendees were able to enjoy delicious food care of The Albert Hotel, and wander around the various stalls to consider spending a few pennies on flowers, books and other items. Those who felt young enough enjoyed bouncy castles and bungee trampolining – if they were brave enough!

All in all, it was a delightful afternoon with fun and games enjoyed by everyone who came to this much-loved annual event.
